The Best Bedside Cot For Newborns
A bedside crib is a bassinet type crib that is attached to the mattress’s side. This allows you to get your baby to sleep for a relaxed feeding. They are suitable for infants from birth until six months.
The Lullaby Trust and the NHS both recommend that babies are kept in separate cots from their parents’ beds. This will lower the risk of SIDS. The best cots for bedside use make this possible.
1. bedside co sleeper Cots For Tots -Sleeper and Clear-Vue
When co-sleeping was a brand-new idea, a mother-and-father team came together to form Arm’s Reach and came up with a concept that would let parents be able to sleep comfortably with their infants. It was the first bedside cot that allowed babies to sleep close by without suffocating or falling into the mattress or on the parent’s side of the bed. Clear-Vue has been in use for 25 years and there have never been any reported fatalities or injuries.
It is equipped with leg extensions to allow for different mattress sizes and comes with an upholstered cover and sheet. The bassinet can be used for babies up to five months old, or until they begin pushing up on their knees. The Co-Sleeper is an infant bassinet that can be used by itself or can be attached to the parent’s mattress using the included strap and plate. It’s easy to switch between the two modes by the pulling of a string however, you must be aware that it doesn’t meet the federal standards for an attached bed which means your child should never be left unattended in this type of arrangement.
McKenna was also awed by the Co-Sleeper’s ease of use. She noted that it is easy to get your baby in and out of the bassinet from the comfort of your bed to feed them during the night or for other requirements. He also praised the security of the Co-Sleeper, saying that it is in compliance with all requirements for a baby’s crib and bassinet. It’s been in the market for years and “about 1.5 million units have been sold” with no reported infant injuries or deaths.
The Clear-Vue bedside cot was the most accessible of all the cots that we tested. Its swiveling sleeping area and adjustable height made it easier to reach in and comfort your baby. Other models had lower sidewalls, which required you to reach over and over or crouch down to get your child, but not the Clear-Vue.
The Clear-Vue was the only one in our top five that didn’t connect to the parent’s bed. It was a close second and was far superior to some of the other models we tested, which were designed to be attached to parental beds. It has a sturdy, solid feel and has plenty of storage space.
2. HALO Bassinest
The HALO Bassinest Swivel Sleeper is the sole bedside cot that rotates 360 degrees to bring baby close and make it easier for parents to get into and out of bed. It also has a lowering wall which allows moms to take care of their babies without needing to leave bed. This is a great feature for nursing mothers who require assistance with feeding their newborns in the first months after birth.
The Bassinest has mesh side walls which allow for plenty of airflow. Additionally, the swing feature is ideal for parents who want to keep an eye on their little one throughout the night. The ability to see the baby and keep them close to them can make a huge difference during the grumpy delirium that comes with being a new parent.
The model scored highly in the Convenience Assessment, which rated features that make it simple to use and clean. This is a must for anyone who has to face spit-ups and diaper blowouts during the beginning of life. The Bassinest is easily cleaned with water and is lightweight. The mattress pad is also washable. It also has an accessory pouch which is ideal to store items such as diapers and nipple cream, which are always needed during the sleep-deprived first days of motherhood.
There are a variety of versions of the Bassinest. One is the standard Essentia, which has no extra features. Another is the LUXE Plus series, which includes white noise and vibrations to aid in assisting babies to fall asleep and remain asleep. Both models include the mattress pad, a fitted sheet, and a huge storage caddy that is larger than the storage bags on other Bassinest models.
The LUXE PLUS series also includes a lowering wall lock as well as a sturdy and stable base that adjusts to fit most beds from 22″ to 34″, a floor light that helps you see your newborn throughout the day and a storage caddy that can hold any additional bedding or items. It isn’t suitable for travel due to the size and weight, but the swivel function is great for keeping baby near while you’re at home.
3. Joie Roomie Glide
This co-sleeper by English brand Joie was designed to create the bond between parents and children a reality. It’s more than just a crib. With a single-hand slide and sliding side panel it lets you to sleep in a safe place with your baby without sharing your own bed. You can feed, soothe or hug your baby from the comfort of your own slumber and take in every moment of the baby stage.
The Joie Roomie Glide Cot is easy to use and clean. It’s ideal for parents who want to co-sleep safely with their newborn. Its cocoon-like shape with rounded edges with softly padded sides, as well as double mesh windows allow you to observe your baby’s sleep from your own couch or bed. The sliding side panel lifts and lowers with one hand, making it easier to respond to those late night wake-up calls. Plus, the gliding motion gently soothes your little one into a restful sleep to ensure you get a restful night’s sleep as well.
The crib is fitted with the mattress that is washable and removable. It’s also light and sturdy. It has four locking wheels to keep it in place, and is covered with rubbery fabric to avoid scratches on the floor.
One of the best things about the Roomie Glide is its adjustable height – you can adjust the legs to fit the height of your couch or bed, so that it’s in perfect alignment with your newborn’s mattress. This is particularly useful when you’re breastfeeding since it lets you feed your baby close without leaving your bed. The height can also reduce the chance of your child falling out of the crib.
A built-in rocking feature is a useful feature ideal for babies. Two buttons on the sides of the crib activate a gentle rocking motion that is soothing and comforting for your baby. You can select an easy or a lively tempo and the gliding function can be locked once your baby is fast asleep.
The only drawback to the Roomie Glide cot is that it is only suitable for infants. You’ll need to upgrade your baby to a full size cot when he or she turns six months (normally at the time they move into their own room). Roanna found it to be an excellent cot bed and would definitely recommend it.
4. Bjorn Cradle

The BabyBjorn is a small, cozy cradle that soothes babies by gently rocking them. Parents can rock their baby or the cradle can turn their movements into gentle rocking. The transparent mesh sides of the cradle help to promote air circulation, allowing parents to keep an eye on their child while they sleep.
The cradle is easy to move around the house due to its lightweight weight. It is easy to clean, and is washable in the machine using the mattress pad. However, it is important to remember that the cradle should not be used in conjunction with any additional cushion, mattress, pillow, bedding, or comforter because this could pose a suffocation risk for infants.
As with all sleep environments it is important to follow safe slumber habits to reduce the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). This includes putting your child on their backs during every nap and while sleeping in the cradle. You should also stop using the cradle when your baby begins to push up on their hands or knees or reaches 8kg/18lbs.
The BabyBjorn crib, as well as all of our cribs and bassinets, is made from child-friendly materials. These products are tested to ensure that they meet the latest safety standards. The manufacturer tests their products to be sure they do not contain toxic chemicals or substances that could harm your child. The cradle is made from cotton and polyester, and is free from allergens that can affect the baby’s sensitive skin. The fabric is hypoallergenic and promotes air circulation.
