Some double as moses’ baskets.
What is a bedside crib?
A bedside crib, also referred to as a bassinet, or co-sleeper, is a small baby cot attached to your adult bed. This allows your child to sleep right next to you in safety. It is a safe method of co-sleeping, which doesn’t increase your risk of SIDS like bedsharing. It also helps you bond with your newborn baby.
baby bedside cot have one side that can be lowered so that you can reach your baby easily at night to comfort and feed them. This is particularly helpful for mothers recovering from a c-section. Many of them are portable or foldable so you can use them for travel and as an interim solution for infants that aren’t yet ready to transition to a larger crib.
Look for a crib with an air-conditioned mattress, as well as an extra-safe cover that will keep your baby safe from stains. You may also want to purchase baby-safe items such as an infant blanket or a teether.
If you are looking for a more long-term solution Some cribs have conversion kits that let you transform them into a toddler bed or cot when the time is right. This can extend their lifespan and make the transition a lot easier. Some even have a removable top section that transforms into a bassinet, and some can be used on either the regular or high-rise adult bed. This is a great option for families that intend to travel frequently or change between bedrooms at night. Consider the size of your bedroom to make sure you can fit in the crib comfortably. A lot of cribs have a riser which can be used to create an inclined position for babies who suffer from reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
The Roomie Glide, a bedside crib from the English brand Joie is a wonderful addition to their line of high-quality products for babies. The co-sleeper was created to help parents bond and sleep side by side with their babies, without sharing one bed. It is full of features that make bonding between parent and baby safe, easy and enjoyable.
One of the key features is a soft rocking motion that can be activated by the touch of a button. This can soothe baby into sleep with a gentle rhythm that doesn’t disrupt their natural sleeping routine. This is great for older babies or toddlers who have difficulty settling down. It can also aid with digestive issues such as reflux and colic.
The crib can also be affixed to the side of the bed by an attachment strap and clip. This makes the crib solid and secure which allows you to rest peacefully, without having to worry that your child will slide off into the middle. The rounded cocoon shape comes with softly cushioned sides and double mesh windows on both ends to allow plenty of air flow whilst keeping your baby secure.
The included mattress is comfortable and firm. It also comes with a washable cover. The lightweight aluminium frame makes the crib very mobile and easy to put together. The four lockable rubber-covered wheels ensure that the crib does not leave marks on your flooring and is easy to move. It is easy to clean using cloths that wipe clean and is easy to put in a bag for travel, which makes it ideal for extended absences from home.
The Tutti Bambini CoZeeAir
Created to be a safe next-to-me crib from birth to six months old, this top model comes with rocking bars as well as castors for easy mobility. Its deluxe airflow mattress offers an incredibly comfortable sleeping surface, while ventilation panels ensure your baby is kept cool. There are six different height settings including an incline setting to help with reflux and congestion.
The Tutti Bambini COZee Air crib has a fabric that can be removed and a wipe-clean lining. This makes it easier to clean than other bedside cribs which can create messy to clean. It also has a top bar which can be easily lowered to allow for feeding at night without having to fiddle with zips.
Anna found that the CoZee was a safe and comfortable sleep space for her newborn. She was pleased that it didn’t move like other models so she wasn’t disturbed in the night trying to comfort her child to feed. She also appreciated that the sides of the chair could be lowered so she didn’t need to reach over her partner in order to carry the child out to feed them at night.
The CoZee comes in oak or charcoal and is a fashionable addition to any bedroom. It’s more stylish than the other cribs we’ve tested that are usually utilitarian. It’s also quite light at just 11kg and comes with a carry bag which allows you to take it on vacation or when you move home. The only extras you have to purchase are a fitted waterproof sheet and a co-sleeping safety strap. There are step-by-step directions and photos to assist you in putting it together as you open the box, making it a one-person job if needed.
The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is a bassinet designed for infants designed to help parents feel connected with their baby while they sleep. It adjusts up and down and moves through three slide positions to fit next to the parent’s bed, or in the corner of the room, so that baby is always within arm’s reach. The breathable mesh siding allows air to circulate through and lets you glance at your baby. You can also put away extra pajamas or supplies in the large basket underneath.
Unlike some other smaller bedside crib options, the Iora folds flat and comes with a bag for travel which allows it to be carried anywhere. Our mom testers were able to move it from room to room, and believed that it was a suitable size for a small bedside cot that was not too big or small. The large storage basket is perfect to store bedding and nappies.
This is an excellent choice for parents who want to co-sleep but don’t wish to share their beds, or whose partners might be prone to mobility issues, such as back problems or arthritis. Our mums who tested it loved the ease with which they could access their child while in the Iora and that it came with an adjustable reflux incline that helped reduce gas.
Our mums love that it follows NICE guidelines. They recommend placing an infant in a Moses basket or crib on its own without toys, blankets and pillows. They also say that the mattress is comfortable and firm for babies and is easy to find sheets for. It’s not as light as other cribs that are smaller on our list, so if prefer something lighter and easier to move around, consider a different option.
